Just like that the first year of college has come to a close.
Dorm rooms are packed up, goodbyes are exchanged, and keys are dropped off.
Summer has officially sprung and so have I!
Since I am now huddled up in the Denver International Airport, awaiting to depart on yet another flight, what better way to send my layover then to write a blog post explaining my upcoming transitions. An apple to the left of me, a bag of almonds to the right, and a blasted air conditioning overhead, I am anxiously ready to arrive at my final destination.
For the next 2 1/2 months I have been given the glorious opportunity of partaking in an internship position in Honolulu, Hawaii. (I know, doesn't that sound just terrible) It has come to my attention while sitting in this airport that none of this seems real to me, and that I truly have not thought about what I am actually going to be spending my time doing. This past week has been concentrated on studying for final exams, that it just now hit me that I am spending a summer assisting a wedding planner in such a highly renown and beautifully located destination. I will report back when I find the words the describe the way I am feeling. It is a fact that I am ecstatic, nervous, and everything in between, but I feel like none of those words truly express my true emotion.
Being involved in the Wedding Industry is something I hold dear. Simply being involved with the delivering of wedding cakes with my mother's cake business has sparked a joy for seeing the joy that little details bring to the bride and her family. I want that in an occupation. I want to help others ideas and dreams become a reality, and I want to be passionate about what I do. In utter ah that this opportunity has come knocking at my door, and I continue to thank God for his perfect timing, and watchful eye.
So while I have an internship to look forward to during the summer months, I also have new relationships to form. Again with the perfect timing, watchful eye, and continuous support, God placed me in the hands of a dear family. During these next few months, I will be hosted by truthfully such a miraculous family. Not only have they provided a place for me to rest my head, they have also provided continuous prayers, support, AND four new siblings. I am overjoyed with the thought of learning a new way of living from this family, and GET THIS, they actually are from my hometown in Kansas... so if that isn't the craziest coincidence, I do not know what is.
This is all a whirlwind for me. Never did I think this time would come, and never did I think it would come with such wonderful people to include in my adventures. Although it isn't easy leaving my comfort zone, my dad says that "Never be comfortable. Always experience new things". So here I go. Again on another plane, to a new land, with a wonderful family there to help guide, guard, and direct me. This my friends, brings so much joy to my heart!
On a side note, if you know me, you know how much I love greek yogurt. So of course I thought that since I will be on a plane all day, yogurt would be a perfect treat that is pack full protein. Normally I get an organic brand that is only sold in large containers, but when I went grocery shopping the other day, I finally found it in little to go packaging. SUPER EXCITING! (Wow, I get too excited over yogurt)
Soon my heart did experience a
heartbreaking moment. While going through security, they took the two beautifully packaged yogurts away, due to the fact that it was 3.7 oz instead of the recommended 3.5 oz. Sad start, but it can only go up from here!
All in all, I can not way to absorb myself with the ocean air, the warm climate, and quality time spent at not only my internship, but with my new host family!
Blessings to All,
Sarah
(One more side note) A BIG BIG BIG Birthday Blessing to my new host sister! Today she celebrates 14 years, and I am grateful that I am able to gain an artistic, intelligent, insightful sister! Happy Happy Birthday!
(Make sure to continuously check in to the blog. Adventures await!)
